Information of educational system

The British educational system is one of the finest and is recognized worldwide. It encourages students to be openminded, creative, critically minded and self-motivated.

Its methodology focuses on the individual, exalting the talents of each student whether it be maths, football or photography and supporting them in those areas they find more challenging.

To accommodate this wide range of disciplines, English schools have first-class facilities, where children can, for example, develop their creativity in the art or design technology departments, learn to play the violin or to conduct an orchestra in a music studio or dissect a dogfish in the biology lab.

Primary education in the UK's starts at age 4 in Reception and continues until age 11 in year 6.

Students then access secondary school from the age of 11 and continue until they are either 16 or 18 years old.

In Year 11, students are examined through official state examinations called GCSEs (General Certificate of Secondary Education). Students should take a minimum of 9 subjects. These exams are independently marked.

From the age of 16, formal education is optional but most continue into 6th form to complete their A’levels.

At the end of Year 13, students sit A’levels in a minimum of 3 subjects. These are official state examinations, which are marked independently and provide the student with a qualification which can be used to access higher education.

Note: The subjects taken at GCSE are a combination of the compulsory subjects English, mathematics and science (biology, physics, chemistry) and a modern language and the rest are chosen by the student from a long list that include history, geography, Latin, Greek, art, design technology, computing, drama, music, economics, religious studies among many others.

The qualifications obtained in UK schools (baccalaureate and A-levels) are highly valued by universities, colleges and companies in the UK and around the world.
